In Memory...

Thursday night, Aug about 9:50...I got a call from my dad...I knew what he was going to say before I even answered...He had called to tell me, my great aunt, Betty Fay had passed away! He had just arrived at the, I immediately got in my car and went to Manor Park where she be there with my mom(Dad got back in the car and drove back 2 1/2 hours to be home with mom)...where we stayed until after midnight...and then once I got home stayed on the phone with my sister for another hour...and let's just say, I am grateful Travis was able to take Ty to school Friday morning...
Betty Fay never married; therefore, had no children of her own. My Gram (her sister) was her best friend and they were always that meant, BF was always around our families! My Gram passed away when I was in 6th grade (my granddaddy Mac passed when my mom was little)...but, BF picked up and took care of my mom and her sisters as my Gram would..and in turn, they took care of her!
She got on to us like we were her own children...and although I never got onto for having a messy room(can't say that for my sister.haha) I did give she (and my Gram) a few minor heart attacks with my, as I like to call them, adventurous opening a car door and falling out! haha! yup, my poor Gram and BF! and if we didn't help our mother out like she thought we should...we were matter how old we were! lol.

She loved the Cabin in Ruidoso and was up there every summer since it was built in 1942...until a few years back when her health declined and her back wouldn't allow the trip up there...but she truly enjoyed it..and we all hated that she just couldn't get back up there!

She lived independently up until the last few months of her life...including driving..ha! She was very sharp and had a good memory. The last year was pretty tough on her...she was in and out of the hospital several times..and seemed that right when she got back into her home..something would happen and she wound up back in the hospital. Which she hated every time..and we hated for her.
About 2 weeks ago she was diagnosed with lung cancer...someone who never smoked..but, dr's contributed to age and the fact she had pneumonia 2 times in that year.  In one week, the x ray showed her cancer had spread, my mom made the hard decision to place her under Hospice care so she could just remain comfortable and be able to go, after a few days of getting pain under control with oral meds...she was released back to manor park but in the nursing home care under hospice. She was doing good and seemed pain was controlled..but, then last friday, she had a bad night and was in pain. so, nurses adjusted meds...we checked on her everyday that weekend..and seemed her sharpness was wearing off..she always would wake up when she heard me say, "betty fay" and pop up and greet my kids..since they were always with me. 1) b/c they are my posse and 2) b/c they would always bring a smile to her face. She LOVED the fact Claire called her, "Fay"..she got the biggest smile about that! Sunday after church we stopped in and she complained of nausea (which was frequent) so travis tracked her nurse down to get some meds...but she was having a hard time finding her words...I contributed that to being in pain and b/c she was in a very deep sleep and still waking up.
2 of my aunts had stopped in that weekend as well and had the same experience. In the next few days, she had difficulty swallowing...which meant, she couldn't get her pain meds. but, there was one where the nurses could administer via syringe in her mouth..
That week we had checked on her and on thursday after going to sams me and the girls stopped in to check on her again..and she would never wake up for,  we watched her sleep for awhile and then left. My mom went during her lunch break (as she did everyday) and BF didn't wake for her either.
My mom was called that night with the news BF had passed away in her sleep.

Although we are happy for her that she is no longer in any pain and is in Heaven with her favorite Gram and her parents...we are saddened for selfish reasons that she is gone! Doesn't seem  real.
My mom took care of her everyday, multiple times a day,  for the past few years  (on top of a full time job running a school, and being a wife, mom and mom-mom,) when she moved from Big Spring to Manor my mom definitely feels a big void in her life...and I joke...we will have to find her something else to do b/c now she will be bored! haha! or maybe she'll finally slow down...which is our hope..but nevertheless, she will miss BF immensely and BF will miss her and was lucky to have her the last few years!

This was the first death experience for my kids...obviously, claire doesn't know what's going on at the age of 21M, Hanna has a big clue...and just says BF is in Heaven and Ty fully understood..a lot more than I anticipated..kinda caught me off guard. But, at the same time glad he did!

Per her request, she will be cremated and we will have a small family service for her in to her parents sometime in the next week or so.

My mom, sister and I went to start cleaning out her apartment over the weekend...and although it was a surreal was neat seeing all the sentimental memorabilia she has..which made the cleaning out process last a lot longer than expected...but good memories were thought of! and it took a whole garbage sack to fill up all the tupperware she kept.haha..being a product of the depression..she was frugal and kept all plastic things and re-used them..haha! (which, we may or may not have been passed down..hehe).

She lead a great life and almost made it to 92! we will miss her indeed but celebrate the life she had!

This was a pic we found cleaning out her was taken about 10 years ago...but, was a great picture!

this was taken this summer on her first trip to the rehab at manor park...she gave hanna a little ride in her wheel chair..haha!

my kids loved to visit no matter where she her house, in the hospital, in reheb or nursing home...1) to show off and 2) she always had raisenettes...and gave them to the kids!

We love you Betty Fay aka "Fay" and will miss you!

School is Cool...

Monday, August 17th, 2015, we had Meet the Teacher for Ty's Kindergarten Class at Midland Academy.. Yup, I said, is absolutely crazy! So, we went to see who his teacher was, take his loads of school supplies and see what this kinder thing is all about. His teacher is Ms. Pearson, and we were excited about that! She seems to be an excellent teacher and we are excited Ty is in her class!
After all that, we got home, got bathed and hit the hay...since the next day started early and a new chapter began...

Meet the Teacher....

She had them do a scavenger hunt to find areas of the classroom....perfect for Ty...he loves those...

once you found the had to color in the circle...

and once they were all got to pick from her treasure crayons for Ty!
Such a great idea to make them excited...and learn a little about the classroom.

his little cubby! The school doesn't allow he just takes home his folder everyday!

That night before the new chapter began...I remember when he was in the same position in his crib...and now he is off to kinder! bittersweet for sure!

Then...Tuesday morning, August 18th, 2015....Ty Lankford Roby started Kindergarten! He has to wear the standard attire of Khaki or Navy shorts/pants and white, marroon or navy shirt, shirt tucked in with a belt and tennis shoes!
He finally got to bust out his bright new pair of shoes...definitely made the morning a lot more fun!

Then it was time for school pictures! :)

our Handsome little boy!

what teacher doesn't need a big bottle of personalized hand sanitizer..especially a kinder teacher! ha!

packed his lunch for the first day...but, then he requested to get a cafeteria tray the next was pizza day! :)

If you watch Sid the Science know this song, "uh hu, my mom is cool..and now, it's time for me to go to school."  Well, of course, that's referring to me and my little boy! hehe! and now that song will be stuck in my head all day!

But, the day I have literally cried about for years came to reality on Tuesday, August 18, 2015! Our little 5 year old started Kindergarten! and naturally, I had issues! I was fine all morning..and I thought, oh, I got this..I have cried all my tears already...and then we went to drop him off at school..and I lost it (Ha)...I was trying to not cry in front of him bc 1) I didn't want to scare him and make him cry and not want to stay and 2) Didn't want to embarrass him on the first day! haha!  hopefully I did neither...but the tears just wouldn't stop! Same thing happened when I dropped him off at MDO at 7 months...haha! why is it so hard for moms?  But, actually, Travis had a hard time too..although he kept his tears back at school..thank goodness..or Ty would be known as the kid with the 2 wuss of, it was hard for him too!

Ty on the other hand, did excellent. Walked in, put his lunch box in his cubby and sat in his seat..then went and got his breakfast (they serve breakfast in classroom if you get there before 8) was a egg and cheese omelet...i thought, really? Of all the cool things to serve for breakfast on the first day, to get the kids excited, you serve a measely, flappy piece of egg? I helped Ty cut it up, as Travis is over my shoulder telling me to stop..but, I just couldn't help it...he asked for help since cutting it up with his spork wasn't doing to job! so, I wasn't just going to let him sit there and not be able to eat it..although, I am pretty sure he would have figured it, his choice of chocolate milk over the regular milk or juice...made everything super cool! ha!

I kissed him bye, and told him I loved him and was super proud of him...then me, travis, hanna, claire and my tears streaming down..left!...we got in the car to drive home...travis offered to take us for breakfast...but, I just couldn't stomach, we sat in silence (girls included) all the way back home...such a weird feeling!
But, although I was teary eyed...I am super excited for his new chapter in Which he loves..and I hope continues that way! My prayers are for him to find new friends, excel in class, be kind to everyone and that no body is mean to him!  :) Really,  I think that is my hardest struggle...the fact, that I can't be there to protect him all the any mom would be! It's hard letting go...I also pray for God to steer travis and I in the right direction as parents to our kids...and to show them the foundation of God! so...we hope we have taught that while he starts Kinder!

and God has answered a few he has made several new friends already! :) Makes me happy, since we don't know anyone at his school! (which, was also weird, coming from MDO where you know majority of people).

However, it is extremely nice, having a grandparent "spy" that lets me know how he is doing...:) (his mom-mom, is the school superintendent) relieves some fears I had! especially the second day when he got a tray..i was nervous he wouldn't have time to wait in line and eat...but, a little birdie told me he did..and the rest of the day I was able to relax! ha!

as much as I am going to miss him being home all day, everyday, these 2 girls will miss him big time! They just love their big brother...and it will feel empty..but, as it's the 3rd day now, we have all started the transition to new normal, I can't lie...It has been nice just enjoying the girls..and their own personalities. They typically just do what Ty is, it's fun seeing their little personalities shine. I have had many hair and nail appointments (by Hanna), gone to Hanna's store and shoe store...laughed and pushed Claire outside! Plus, gymnastics started back that was nice..and Ty appreciates the morning class so he doesn't have to sit through it...oh, the dread)..haha1
But, come 3:30 we can't wait for Ty to come out the door, with his big smile on his face, as we all shout, "Hi Ty, did you have a good day?" and he's always super excited to tell us about his day and thinks he's pretty cool stuff! These are the times when being able to be a stay at home mom is sooo rewarding.and so grateful for that! :) But, we are trying to get use to the carpool line..and the wait it entails..the girls aren't the biggest fan..but, we'll get it all figured out soon!

We get home about 4...get supper ready, eat around 5...shower and then at start their bedtime routine! (brush teeth, wash hands, books and prayers).

being back on our normal routine is so nice!

Starting day 3, although he can tell he is tired.. Shoot, I am tired...although we are up early..we haven't had to get out of the house by 7:20 and gone all day! so, it's an adjustment for all, so no doubt he is tired! Hopefully, this means, saturday we can all sleep in....RIGHT ROBY KIDS????

homework on the first day

The second day of school, he was STAR music class! He was the only one who could freeze, when the music turned off! haha! So proud! haha! :)
Also, drop off gets easier each day...and just do the drop off line and he hopes out and goes inside...and each time we drive away, I can say, "no" when Hanna asks, "mom are you going to cry now." lol.

and...Kinder isn't fun just for kids..but, say hello to the newest member of the "Play-doh Club" and school "Volunteer." :) haha!

our last weekend day...chick-fil-a lunch date (during the school year away).

another perk of being in  have to be here..nice finally being in town on the weekend! :)

Here's to a great school year! :)

Katy Trip...

Tuesday, after waiting an hour in the registration line to sign the girls up for was ROADTRIP time...not exactly to Katy, as the title alludes, but next door to  Fulshear, to see Gamy and Granddaddy!
Road trips mean movie time for Ty..which he and kindle time for 7 hours...WINNING!
wish I could say the same for Hanna and Claire...who are not the best travelers...hanna bc she still doesn't watch tv (unless a couple certain shows) nor does Claire...and just chats the whole way! loads of fun...but, in preparation for this trip I bought Hanna new pink, barbie (her request) headphones..and let me just was an absolute game changer. She actually watched a show...bubble guppies, and would shout the answers out (since she couldn't hear) and then Claire would repeat them....and a few times even startling me bc shouting so loudly...but, worth the scare if that kept her occupied for at least 30 minutes! haha!

once we got there cousin Addison and Aunt Ash came over to spend a little time before bedtime...lots of running and giggles!

Wednesday morning, they came back over but with Elly in tow this time! Hanna of course took over...and was super excited to see baby Elly..who turn 7 months while we were there! (crazy).

Then we went down the street to the splash pad and pool...only to find out the pool was closed on wednesdays for cleaning! bummer!

so, After the splash pad we ventured over to the park...and then up the mountain for a picnic lunch...and then went to a different pool in the neighborhood that was, we swam there for a bit until it was time to go and rest.....

because we had a birthday party to attend!
Since Ty will be in school, we may not make it down for Addison's real birthday party, so, we celebrated a cousin bday party for her at chuck e cheese!

and after a ton of tokens the girls walked away with tootsie rolls and frozen tattoos and ty got chuck e cheese deck of cards and vampire teeth! haha!

The next day Ashley and I loaded up my car with carseats and kids and went to visit Gigi and Great Granddaddy! Always a special time to see them...and after our visit we went back for lunch and rest time and back to Ashley's to test out Addison's fun new toy for her bday party...

a water slide!
They kids had a blast and cousin M and S got to play too...which was fun for Ty to have some boys in the house! haha!
They definitely broke it in and no doubt it will be a huge success at the party!

M got to come spend the night with Ty...while Hanna stayed with Addison for a sleepover....they had such a great time, painting nails, getting matching nightgowns and hiding from brian...but when it was bedtime (hanna's favorite time of the day....enter MAJOR sarcasm) fun was over and she wanted me to come get, about 9:45 that's what I did..and she crashed immediately.

How are these two boys (just 1 day apart) about to be in Kindergarten??? tears!

Thursday night, late, Travis flew, Friday morning we loaded up our swimsuits and a picnic lunch and headed to Port O'Connor (about 2 hours away)...
It was so nice to get down to the place they have and see it..and get on the boat and cruise! seeing water was a perk...but actually being able to put a boat in the water and ride...was a treat for this west texas family where rain is scarce..and affects our lakes!

After our boat ride we went to the clubhouse and swam....followed by a little fishing...

We did spy some dolphins which was really cool...and definitely something we aren't use to seeing!
see the fin?

while the boys and miss priss drove around the neighborhood so claire would nap! :)

Saturday, Trey and M came over....and the boys ended up taking ty to fish in the pond near that meant, hanna and claire got their first babysitting gig! Hanna was in heaven! and it wore claire out so much that she took a good 2 hour morning nap...a record! haha!

Later that night...the guys came back over with their better halves and we had a little cookout!

Sunday, we woke up and headed hair extensions and all! ha!

after lunch, we turned TV's off and made them close their eyes, " but, I'm  not tired" the 2 oldest said....

Sums up our trip...successful!

There are were many other we would have love to see while there...but, it's amazing how quickly a few days fly by!

Now to get back on our routine/schedule since a certain, super special, 5 year old, starts Kinder on tuesday! can.not.believe it!
