H5 Trophy Ranch...

We were asked by one of our friends to go on a hunting trip with her at the H5 Trophy Ranch in Barksdale, TX! It was absolutely amazing and we had the best time.  The accommodations were fabulous, the guides were awesome and so much fun..and the scenery was beautiful! I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a high fence exotic hunt...or if you just want a whitetail or turkey in season. It was amazing!
It's about 4 hours from midland...since we all live in the same neighborhood it was easy picking everyone up..ha!
We left that morning by 8..had lunch in rock springs...and then spent the reset of our weekend looking at beautiful animals and shooting some! Hehe! and one of the biggest perks for me, not going to lie, was not having to cook or do dishes! aaahhhh! now, that's a vacation!
No sleeping in when hunting...but when you wake up at 6 to go find animals is a little more relaxing than the hustle and bustle of 3 kiddos! :)

Once we got there friday afternoon we just cruised around in the rangers and found some animals..and then the shooting started...Oh wait..back could I forget...we did a little range shooting to get guns dialed in...and guess who got BULLSEYE...this girl..haha! I was shocked too! haha! Haven't shot a gun in years..but sure was fun...and this could be the year, now that kids are older, for me to get back into the hunting game! we'll see!

Friday was gorgeous..and hot! shoulders wished I would have put sunscreen on...but, totally didn't think of that! oops! we rode around for hours..hunting down animals and learning all about the exotic game they had!

Made it!!!

View from our room...                                                                       ready to go..

not planned..but we acted like we were going to sadie hawkins party! haha!

enjoying the view and fire pit...

we lit it that night...

Brenda had never been hunting or shot a rifle/shotgun before..but, she's wanting to learn (hence the trip) so, they had a pig trapped and let her practice..sorry little piggy! ha! but it was a great shot!

we rode up and down rocky  mountains..sometimes you forget that you were even in texas...and with all the rain it was so green!

next on her list...was an Oryx....beautiful horns...

and then a calefornia ram...she was on a roll! and so much fun to watch!

trav picked me some flowers..aahh! who said hunting can't be romantic...which reminds guy said if I planted them they would grow and spread..need to get those out of my suitcase and test it! haha!

Travis had one thing and one thing only...a trophy axis!
we saw several HUGE ones!!!

all the animals horns were unique and beautiful..but these fallow were my fav! sooo pretty!

vibrant got him an axis saturday morning...

of course, the picture taker in me spied an excellent photo op....just a gorgeous background.

then later saturday morning it started to, we stayed at lodge, ate lunch..and waited for it to pass...well, one of the guides (who is in charge there) wanted to see how much it had rained and check the spill, he and other guide got in the truck only to return a couple minutes later..with, "hey, there are a ton of axis right here." so, trav grabs his gun..i get my camera and we find axis was smart and hid behind the, we decided to drive up and turn around to find him again...but, came upon another huge one..who was even, trav scooed me to the side where I was basically in lynn's lap...(we were great friends by then..haha..) and in the rain, uphill, shot but there was a blank bullet..aahhh! maybe a foul word was said..but, he loaded again(in about 1 sec)..and shot.....and that thing didn't run but a few feet and feel right into the bottom of a tree! woohoo! it was super exciting!

a little rain never hurt anyone!

I drove the truck back to the lodge to get everyone else and the rangers..and it was was time to gut!

and measure to see if it was Gold worthy...and pretty sure it was!

he was huge and beautiful!

the kills in the freezer!

of course, after all that..the rain stopped and it was gorgeous!

so, we kept driving around..and found these aoudad sheep from a long ways, used the gun scope! ha!

Sunday, we woke up early again to try and get brenda an axis...but, after 3 attempts we called it quits...and will just have to go back! :)
so, since the sun was out we took advantage and got some better shots of trav and his deer!

can't wait to get him in our house and freezer! :)

We headed back that afternoon and got back just in time to get gamy and granddaddy to the airport since they were here watching our littles...and having a great time!

next day..i had a little tummy, what better place for all my babies to be than in my lap..on my tummy! ha! we made it though!

Thumbs up for H5 ranch and a successful hunting trip!

We LOVE the cabin...the smell of the pine trees, fresh air..and just total relaxation...or as much as one can have with kids..but,'s super laid back with no agenda.
My parents ended up going with, me, mom and the kids drove down thursday after lunch and my dad and trav got there that night!
We did exactly what we sought out...absolutely nothing! It was what we all needed! Thankful for all the memories at the cabin and grateful to share them with my kids...and have them create new memories! :)

We were greeted Thursday with deer....Hanna kept telling them to come up on the porch...which one momma probably would have had there not been a loud and scared toddler! ha!

mountain kids...

my absolute favorite things to do is our walks...growing up we always had walking sticks...they are prob still in the garage, and come to think of would probably be fun for the kids..but..we just walk..sometimes run..and just explore..see what houses have been changed, what's for sale..and always on the lookout for animals! :)

travis feeding the deer! The pregnant mommas would eat out of hands..but the boys were smarter than that! ha!not that we would/could shoot them..but, the boys kept their distance from the Humans! :)

Friday, Ty played golf with the guys! Always a sad day, when he chooses to hang with the boys than with his momma...tear...but, considering I suggested it...I couldn't be too sad. I just knew he would have a blast...and he's at that age where he loves to do things with the "guys."
They had a great time...and ty got to play several holes....and helped grandpa drive the cart! He had a BIG time! HE wanted to golf the next day...but i convinced him to stay and play in the river with us! :) so..that's what he did!

my 3  of favorite  "guys"

Mom would just pet the deer like they were a pet dog...haha! as long as they were getting food (peaches..they didn't like the cantaloupe) they didn't care..ha

Hanna and Claire got in on the action too...

A good thunderstorm came through friday we had to scratch our river time and just hung out in cabin until it passed...but, after it passed and the sun came up...down the river for a little walk!

Monkey see, monkey do...Claire does EVERYTHING Hanna does! she wants to be with her, whereever hanna does claire!  "Hanna wait."

Hanna will make a stage out of anything....she was cracking us up...

so, of course, claire did too!

walking the river...

found the perfect rock for claire to sit on..this girl could throw rocks all day. so, to keep her still I sat her down and kept handing her rocks to throw..she was happy as could be!

There are so many reasons why I love our time at the cabin...but, i had the absolute best time playing Old Maid and War with Ty....he had me laughing so hard! I!

since ty couldn't win...(lol)...and I honestly, tried to let him..but always seemed to pick the old maid..haha..he brought reinforcements and let trav have a try....but, no such luck! haha! Old Maid Queen right here! lol.

since it rained cooled off to, the next morning we woke up to 50 degrees..which called for a fire! nothing better!

when in the eat like a mountain man!

and when you go-go-go...naps are always nice! :)

yup...even at the cabin..our kiddos sneak in bed with us! hanna and I were already up..or she would have been in the pic too! haha! Perfect way to start Father's Day! ha!

family selfie by the river!!

these 3 are super lucky to have such a wonderful Grandpa!

happy to spend the weekend with my dad...but, we had to leave sunday morning in time to be home for the golf tournament! haha.

This is about as close as ty would get...

hoola hoopin master...

and sister is getting pretty good too...

such a stud..

2 girls who LOVE the river..."Mommy, this is so much fun."

he was trying so hard to find an elk...but, no luck.

deer watching...

saturday the sun was out and able to play in the river..

and got their yearly mark on the wall...
ty grew 3", Hanna 3.5" and Claire 6" :)

Until July...when we go back! :)
